New Testament: Mark 14.22
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 14.1–25 on March 12, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Many people from the beginning of time have given their bodies to save loved ones, or even strangers. For some of them, their nation or some other organization creates a memorial for them, but I do not believe that any memorial is as unique as what Jesus asked his followers to do:
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
– Mark 14.22
We remember the sacrifice of Jesus by eating unleavened bread. We eat this bread and the bread becomes part of us. Likewise, we take in Jesus by accepting what he did, and by following his teachings and commandments, and by doing so, he becomes part of us.
We eat this bread weekly that we might remember and never forget the awesome sacrifice that Jesus made for us, that we might have the forgiveness of our sins and that we might have a new covenant under which to live.
Questions:
- What do you think about when you eat the bread at the Lord’s Supper?
- What does Jesus mean to you?
