Knowing the certainty of the things of Jesus

New Testament: Luke 1.1–4

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 1.1–23 on March 18, In the year of our Lord 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Lord had three men who witnessed the ministry of Jesus, write what we call Gospel Accounts (Matthew, Mark, and John), but the Lord also wanted a man who had heard witnesses of the ministry Jesus preach, to write down what those other apostles had spoken,

Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

– Luke 1.1–4

We have three witness accounts and we have another account of a man who was a careful historian, who had heard the witnesses speak and he delivered that knowledge to us in what we call The Gospel According to Luke. Therefore, by reading all four accounts, we can know the certainty of what happened during the ministry of Jesus of Nazareth.

  • Do you believe that what you read in The Gospel According to Luke happened or do you just hope that the events happened?
