David heard and saw Goliath challenge the armies of the living God, but no one accepted to the challenge, for all feared this great Philistine warrior. 

However, David knew that he could beat the giant. Therefore, he started asking in the Israelite camp what would be done for the man who defeated this God-blaspheming fighter. Look at David’s attitude: 

Then he turned from him toward another and said the same thing; and these people answered him as the first ones did. Now when the words which David spoke were heard, they reported them to Saul; and he sent for him. Then David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

– 1 Samuel 17.30–32 

We then discover David’s past battles against animal predators and we learn of his total trust in the God of heaven. Therefore, the size of Goliath did not frighten David, knowing that he would be victorious.
