The need for raising voices with resounding joy

One of the many things that King David did to bring glory to Israel was to have music, putting the Levites in charge of this great work:

Then David spoke to the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers accompanied by instruments of music, stringed instruments, harps, and cymbals, by raising the voice with resounding joy.

– 1 Chronicles 15.16

By the way, pronounce the “s” in “resounding,” with a “z” sound.

Israel was many things, one of which was a Jehovah-praising nation. They praised him with their daily living, they praised him with their sacrifices, they praised him in war, but they also praised him in song.

Therefore, David wanted the Levites to be sure that the raising of the voice, expressing resounding joy through song filled the air at the tabernacle at all times.

That is one of the reasons that Christians ought to seek to assemble with their brethren, that they all might blend their voices together with resounding joy.

Questions:

  • Is it an unquestioned thing in your family that you will assemble with the church every first day of the week?
  • What are your favorite spiritual songs?
