New Testament: John 11.40
To read the Bible in a year, read John 11.18–46 on May 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Jesus told Martha that if she believed she would see wonderful things, in particular she would see her brother Lazarus again because Jesus would raise him from the dead. Therefore, when they arrived at the tomb, Jesus asked for the stone at the opening of the tomb to be taken away, but Martha warned him that since her brother had been dead four days, there would be a stench. To which Jesus said,
“Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”
– John 11.40
Seeing her brother alive again would be seeing the glory of God, not because Lazarus was God, but the power of God would bring Lazarus back from the dead.
That was just a foretaste of the glory that we shall see for believing Jesus.
