New Testament: John 18.19–21
To read the Bible in a year, read John 18.1–23 on June 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
The Jewish leaders had Jesus arrested. Once they had Him, they began to question Him, but He would not answer their questions. One time He told them to ask the people He taught:
The high priest then asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine. Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet, and in secret I have said nothing. Why do you ask Me? Ask those who have heard Me what I said to them. Indeed they know what I said.”
– John 18.19–21
Let us think with Him for a moment. He did teach openly. Would it not have been better for the leaders to be at those public gatherings? Also, by asking the crowds what He taught, they could hear plenty of witnesses who would have provided an agreeable testimony.
Questions:
- Did the high priest really want to know what Jesus taught?
- How did they react to the answer of Jesus?
