Old Testament: Neh 2.6
To read the Bible in a year, read Nehemiah 1–3 on June 16, In the year of our Lord 2022
By Don Ruhl
Nehemiah prayed to God for an opportunity to go to Jerusalem to help the Jews there rebuild their wall. Then one day, he was sad before the Persian king and after asking Nehemiah why he was sad, Nehemiah told the king why and the king wanted to help:
Then the king said to me (the queen also sitting beside him), “How long will your journey be? And when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.
– Nehemiah 2.6
Why was a Persian king so willing to help this Jew? Nehemiah was a humble, honest, and reliable man. The king could see his integrity. Therefore, when he had a need, the king wanted to help him. Nehemiah was not arrogant, nor demanding, but submitted his desire to God first and then waited for an opportunity. When that moment arrived, he continued his humility and got what he needed.
Questions:
- Are you demanding?
- Are you a man or woman of integrity?
- How do the people of the world see you?
