Old Testament: Job 8.8–10

Job’s friends treated him as though he knew nothing. Listen to Bildad as he tells Job to learn from the past: 

“For inquire, please, of the former age,
And consider the things discovered by their fathers;
For we were born yesterday, and know nothing,
Because our days on earth are a shadow.
Will they not teach you and tell you,
And utter words from their heart?”

– Job 8.8–10 

Bildad spoke as though Job had not learned from those who had gone before! Generally speaking, Job was wise, and he picked that up from the older generations, as well as the experiences of life that God had Job go through, that he might learn how best to live. 

Truly, we should learn from those who have gone before us, because often current generations fail to learn the successes and failures of history.
