What did they expect Peter to do?

New Testament: Acts 9.37–38

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 9.23–43 on June 30, In the year of our Lord 2022

By Don Ruhl

A well-known woman in the church at Joppa had died, breaking the hearts of the people there because she did many good things for people. So the church did the following:

But it happened in those days that she became sick and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. And since Lydda was near Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.

– Acts 9.37–38

Luke does not record whether they told Peter what they wanted him to do, but when he arrived, he raised her from the dead. He had the ability so that is what he did.

Questions:

  • What can you do for the sick and dying?
  • What can you do for the family and friends after someone has died?
