Obedience leads to prosperity, disobedience leads to perishing

Old Testament: Job 36.11–12

To read the Bible in a year, read Job 35–37 on July 7, In the year of our Lord 2022

By Don Ruhl

Elihu argued that God does not despise anyone and that He provides justice for the oppressed. He knows how to deal with every kind of person. Therefore, the young man Elihu said to Job:

“If they obey and serve Him,
They shall spend their days in prosperity,
And their years in pleasures.
But if they do not obey,
They shall perish by the sword,
And they shall die without knowledge.”

– Job 36.11–12

This sums up our lives: We either obey God or we disobey Him. He then deals with us according to the choice that we make.

Questions:

  • Does obedience to God or disobedience summarize your life?
  • How has God dealt with you?
