Old Testament: Psa 29.5–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 28–30 on July 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Psalm 29 is awesome because it shows the awesomeness of the voice of the Lord. Here are a few examples:
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars,
Yes, the LORD splinters the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes them also skip like a calf,
Lebanon and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the LORD divides the flames of fire.
The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness;
The LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth,
And strips the forests bare;
And in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”
– Psalm 29.5–9
As I read through that list, I imagined an atheist claiming that we can create sounds that could do damage like what David mentioned with the cedars of Lebanon. However, they would have to make a device, a machine, a speaker system or something, but they could not do it with their voices.
The picture of the Lord speaking and splintering the great cedars of Lebanon is awesome, but so is the picture of the Lord speaking and causing the deer to give birth.
Let us, therefore, do what everyone in the temple of heaven does and say, “Glory.”
