A Time to Speak

Old Testament: Psa 39.1–3

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 38–40 on July 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

There were times that prompted you strongly to speak, but you held your tongue. However, that did not make the desire to speak go away, and finally, with your heart bursting, you spoke. David would know the feeling:

I said, “I will guard my ways,
Lest I sin with my tongue;
I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle,
While the wicked are before me.”
I was mute with silence,
I held my peace even from good;
And my sorrow was stirred up.
My heart was hot within me;
While I was musing, the fire burned.
Then I spoke with my tongue…

– Psalm 39.1–3

When those times come, be sure to maintain your self-control, for if you sin through your anger, then you have only made the situation worse.

  • Do you always keep silent?
  • Do you always speak your mind?
