The sons of Korah, who wrote the 49th Psalm, declared something that we all know, or at least we should know, but we often live as though we do not know. They wrote that the wealthy cannot pay God a ransom to keep a relative from dying. The sons of Korah continued to say: 

For he sees wise men die;
Likewise the fool and the senseless person perish,
And leave their wealth to others.
Their inner thought is that their houses will last forever,
Their dwelling places to all generations;
They call their lands after their own names.
Nevertheless man, though in honor, does not remain;
He is like the beasts that perish.

– Psalm 49.10–12 

Whether you are wise or a fool, whether you are rich or poor, we all die. We may think that our legacy will last forever, but it does not. The truth is, we can be the most honorable man or woman on earth, but we will still die just like the animals of the earth. 

Rather than seeking to build a name for ourselves, we should place our lives in the hands of the Lord and let him do with us as he pleases.
