The Old Testament Speaks to Christians

New Testament: Acts 28.25–27

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 28.16–31 on July 30, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Unfortunately, most Christians do not want anything to do with the Old Testament, the Bible Books of Genesis through Malachi, but that is a serious mistake. Did you know that every New Testament preacher was an Old Testament preacher? It speaks to us today, all of it speaks to us. Look at Paul use it:

So when they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had said one word: “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, saying,

“‘Go to this people and say:
Hearing you will hear, and shall not understand;
And seeing you will see, and not perceive;
For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.’”

– Acts 28.25–27

For Paul, the Old Testament gave him insight into people, and he did not hesitate to quote it to show people what it says.

Questions:

  • Do you avoid the Old Testament?
  • If so, why do you avoid it?
  • Is it the word of God?
