New Testament: Rom 4.17–18
To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 4 on August 3, In the year of our Lord 2022
By Don Ruhl
God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, although he was old and so was his wife, truly, she was beyond the normal age for bearing children. Yet, knowing God, Abraham believed that if God made a promise, He would keep it, no matter what. Paul said,
…(as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”
– Romans 4.17–18
Although Abraham had not seen anything like this happen before, He knew that God could do it. Do you not also believe the same way? If God can create the heavens and the earth, and if He can create our bodies, can He not also cause an old man and an old woman to have a child?
Questions:
- Do you have faith as Abraham did?
- If not, what do you think you need to do to make it like him?
