Old Testament: Psa 78.34–35
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 78 on August 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Psalm 78 reviews Israel’s history, especially in the wilderness after they escaped Egypt. The review included those times that the Lord redeemed Israel out of trouble, but also those times when Israel rebelled against the Lord.
The psalmist revealed what often brought Israel back to the Lord:
When He slew them, then they sought Him;
And they returned and sought earnestly for God.
Then they remembered that God was their rock,
And the Most High God their Redeemer.
– Psalm 78.34–35
That was also the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. Truly, it pictures the history of many nations and of many people, that we remember our God and turn back to him when we suffer. We may wish that was not true, but what the psalmist wrote pictures what often happens.
Questions:
- Have you been away from the Lord?
- If so, and you returned, what made you return?
