Stay connected to the tree

New Testament: Rom 11.16

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 11.1–21 on August 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

In Romans 9–11, Paul explained the Jewish problem of unbelief in Jesus. He also addressed us Gentiles, and the proper attitude that we ought to have toward the Lord and toward the Jews. He reminded us:

For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

– Romans 11.16

The Jews were holy, but when they refused to accept Jesus as the Christ, they were cut off. Any Gentile who is grafted into the tree becomes holy as the Jews were.

The tree of God is holy and anyone connected to it then becomes holy.

Therefore, keep yourselves in the holiness of God by staying connected to him through your faithful obedience.

Questions:

  • How many Jews do you know who have accepted Jesus as the Christ?
  • Why do you believe that Jesus is the Christ?
