Why the Lord is exalted

Old Testament: Isa 33.5–6

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 31–33 on October 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

What do you think of the Lord? You know that he is exalted far above the earth, and that he is greater than all. Listen to Isaiah show why the Lord is exalted:

The LORD is exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
Wisdom and knowledge will be the stability of your times,
And the strength of salvation;
The fear of the LORD is His treasure.

– Isaiah 33.5–6

Yes, he dwells far above us on high, and for that we exalt him in our hearts, minds, and with our words.

In ancient times, he filled Zion with good spiritual things, such as justice and righteousness, and his wisdom and knowledge also brought stability to Israel when they were faithful to him.

When they feared him, they found his treasure, namely, the strength of his salvation.

All of these things we find now in the heavenly Jerusalem, the church of the firstborn, the true Zion. That is why we are members of the church, for it brings us into contact with all spiritual blessings that are in the heavenly places.

Questions:

  • What was ancient Zion?
  • What other reasons can you list for showing that the Lord is exalted?
