Old Testament: Jer 2.18–19
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 1–2 on October 19, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
The Lord asked Israel why they sought the help of foreign nations when they had forsaken the Lord, their only true help:
“And now why take the road to Egypt,
To drink the waters of Sihor?
Or why take the road to Assyria,
To drink the waters of the River?
Your own wickedness will correct you,
And your backslidings will rebuke you.
Know therefore and see that it is an evil and bitter thing
That you have forsaken the LORD your God,
And the fear of Me is not in you,”
Says the Lord GOD of hosts.
– Jeremiah 2.18–19
When you forsake the Lord, eventually you will reap the consequences for it. Why then go elsewhere? The only place or the only one to whom we should turn, is the Lord.
Egypt and Assyria had been great nations, building empires that lasted thousands of years, but where are they now? Why then did Israel turn to them instead of the Lord, their Creator?
Questions:
- Do you know how old the pyramids of Giza are?
- Do you turn to something else other than the Lord when trouble comes into your life?
