Listen to Scripture-Based Instruction

New Testament: 1Ti 4.6

To read the Bible in a year, read First Timothy 4 on October 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

Does your preacher instruct you out of the word of God? If so, do not resent him for it, but praise him for doing as the Holy Spirit instructed:

If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.

– 1 Timothy 4.6

Believe it or not, in my over forty years of preaching, various Christians have told me not to teach the word of God, or not to teach it so abundantly, or not to teach certain parts of it. I have to reject their advice and follow the Holy Spirit’s wishes.

When preachers do that, they establish you in God’s wisdom, and they are good ministers of Jesus Christ for doing it, and they show that they nourish themselves in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine of God.

Is that not the kind of man you want guiding you from the pulpit or the classroom?

Questions:

  • In what ways do you support your local preacher?
  • What methods do you employ to learn from him as much as you possibly can?
