Old Testament: Jer 12.10–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 11–13 on October 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Some rulers see their nations as existing only for their benefit. Therefore, they exploit the nation for their own purposes, but that ruins the nation. As the Lord said:
“Many rulers have destroyed My vineyard,
They have trodden My portion underfoot;
They have made My pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.
They have made it desolate;
Desolate, it mourns to Me;
The whole land is made desolate,
Because no one takes it to heart.
The plunderers have come
On all the desolate heights in the wilderness,
For the sword of the LORD shall devour
From one end of the land to the other end of the land;
No flesh shall have peace.
They have sown wheat but reaped thorns;
They have put themselves to pain but do not profit.
But be ashamed of your harvest
Because of the fierce anger of the LORD.”
– Jeremiah 12.10–13
Read the history of Israel and Judah, and that is precisely what you will discover, and it still happens today in the nations of the world.
We should all see our nations as something greater than ourselves, and not something that exists to serve us. We exist, especially Christians, to serve others.
Questions:
- Do you use organizations for your own benefit?
- How are you making your nation a better place to live?
