If you speak the truth, be prepared for people not to like you

Old Testament: Jer 26.10–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 25–26 on October 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

The Lord used Jeremiah to tell Judah what the nation needed to hear. However, they did not like what he said:

When the princes of Judah heard these things, they came up from the king’s house to the house of the LORD and sat down in the entry of the New Gate of the LORD’S house. And the priests and the prophets spoke to the princes and all the people, saying, “This man deserves to die! For he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”

– Jeremiah 26.10–11

People who live in and enjoy their sin will not like hearing the truth, although there will be exceptions and those people will bring great joy to your heart.

However, prepare yourself for rejection, but rejoice when others accept the truth.

I have always said that when you speak the truth, there are people who would be happy to die for you and others who would be happy for you to die.

Questions:

  • How do you react to the speakers of truth?
  • Are you willing to give up your sin?
