New Testament: Heb 7.18–19
To read the Bible in a year, read Hebrews 7 on November 10, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
God gave Israel the Law of Moses that He might teach the world about sin and its penalty and what is needed to remove the penalty. The penalty is death, but the remedy is blood from a substitute sacrifice. However, those animal sacrifices could not take care of man’s sins, for man is greater than animals. When that lesson had been taught adequately, the Lord brought in something new:
For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.
– Hebrews 7.18–19
Praise God for giving us the Testament of our Lord Jesus Christ, for He sacrificed Himself for us and obtained the forgiveness of our sins that we might have eternal life and that we might draw near to God.
Questions:
- Have you cowered away from God before?
- What do you cherish the most about being able to draw near to God?
