We want the word in our hearts, but we still embrace part of the world, and that just does not work, 

Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

– James 1.21

We have to want to lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness and we have to want to receive the word. The more of the word we see, the more we will want to discard the evil that has found residence in our souls.
