The Lord would use Jerusalem’s lovers against her

Old Testament: Eze 23.22–24

To read the Bible in a year, read Ezekiel 22–23 on November 20, In the year of our Lord 2022

By Don Ruhl

Jerusalem turned her back on the Lord and sought after her lovers, but later she alienated herself even from them, nevertheless, she still would not turn to the Lord at that time. Therefore, the Lord told the city what He would do,

“Therefore, Oholibah, thus says the Lord GOD:
‘Behold, I will stir up your lovers against you,
From whom you have alienated yourself,
And I will bring them against you from every side:
The Babylonians,
All the Chaldeans,
Pekod, Shoa, Koa,
All the Assyrians with them,
All of them desirable young men,
Governors and rulers,
Captains and men of renown,
All of them riding on horses.
And they shall come against you
With chariots, wagons, and war-horses,
With a horde of people.
They shall array against you
Buckler, shield, and helmet all around.
I will delegate judgment to them,
And they shall judge you according to their judgments.’”

– Ezekiel 23.22–24

From all this Jerusalem eventually learned, but why did they have to go the rough route? Why not just obey in the first place? Why not focus upon what the Lord has done, go to Him, and find blessings?

Questions:

  • Do you seek blessings from anyone other than the Lord?
  • Are you better off after people lead you away from the Lord?
