Old Testament: Dan 11.1–4
To read the Bible in a year, read Daniel 11–12 on December 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
Earlier in the Book of Daniel, God gave the prophet visions that showed the kingdom he was then living in and the succeeding kingdoms, and he used various images to represent those kingdoms and some of their kings. However, in chapter 11, God did not do so. He revealed again to the prophet two of the kingdoms and their kings, but this time, God spoke plainly. A glorified being from heaven spoke to Daniel, saying:
“Also in the first year of Darius the Mede, I, even I, stood up to confirm and strengthen him. And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than them all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. Then a mighty king shall arise [This is a prophecy of Alexander the Great, D.R.], who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. And when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up [Because Alexander died young] and divided toward the four winds of heaven [Among his four generals], but not among his posterity [Because he had no son] nor according to his dominion with which he ruled [Their kingdoms would not be nearly as large or powerful as his was, since they divided up his kingdom]; for his kingdom shall be uprooted, even for others besides these.”
– Daniel 11.1–4
The rest of chapter 11 speaks with accuracy, predicting the history of the divided parts of Alexander’s kingdom of Greece, how the various kings and generals of the divided kingdom would interact with one another, showing that God knows all things and that the doings of the kingdoms were all within His control, even as it is today. God does not make every nation do what it does, but He knows what nations do and they are all within His control.
So it is with your life. Rest easy. God knows you. He watches over you. Just follow Him and He shall see that you have what you need.
Questions:
- Do you see the difference between the things that you need and the things that you want?
- Can you see God working in your life?
- Can you see God working in the life of your nation?
