Otherwise, what follows below is a brief thought on Daniel 9.25 for you to ponder today.

Daniel had read the Book of Jeremiah and found where the prophet had said that the Babylonian captivity would last 70 years. Seeing that the 70 years had been fulfilled, Daniel offered a magnificent prayer to God, found in Daniel 9.

Then as Daniel prayed, the Lord sent Gabriel the angel to reveal a timeline for when the Messiah would enter the world, and how long His ministry would last and that it would end because of His murder.

The timeline also revealed other events that the Jews could follow so that they would know the precise timing of the Messiah. Part of that prophecy included this:

“Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;
The street shall be built again, and the wall,
Even in troublesome times.”

– Daniel 9.25

What this shows me, especially when you consider that it was fulfilled perfectly, is that the Lord is in charge of the nations, the times, the present, and the future.

He knows all those things about you also. Do not fear, therefore, but let your heart rest in faith that you have in the Lord.

Questions:

  • What have you learned from reading the Book of Daniel?
  • Do you believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messiah, the Christ?
