Old Testament: Hag 2.6–9
To read the Bible in a year, read Haggai on December 25, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022
By Don Ruhl
The Babylonians had knocked down Solomon’s temple and the Jews would rebuild it after they returned from Babylonian captivity. However, through the prophet Haggai the Lord promised an even greater temple and it would happen when he shakes all things:
For thus says the LORD of hosts: “Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,” says the LORD of hosts. “The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,” says the LORD of hosts. “The glory of this latter temple shall be greater than the former,” says the LORD of hosts. “And in this place I will give peace,” says the LORD of hosts.
– Haggai 2.6–9
We know this refers to the End when Jesus returns and destroys the universe because Hebrews 12.25–29 uses this prophecy of Haggai to make that point. The first time God shook the earth was when he spoke with Moses. Haggai said that the Lord will speak again and so shake the earth that it will dissolve the earth, except for one thing: The kingdom of God shall survive and Jesus shall deliver the kingdom to the Father in heaven and they shall see the actual temple of God in heaven.
Questions:
- Are you prepared for the Lord to shake the earth to pieces?
- What do you need to do to get ready?
