The waters upon which the harlot sat

New Testament: Rev 17.15

To read the Bible in a year, read Revelation 17 on December 26, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

In Revelation 12.14, John saw a woman, representing God’s people, first as Israel and then as the church, flee into the wilderness. Later, John saw the woman again in the wilderness and she had changed greatly. She had become a harlot and first, John saw her sitting upon many waters, and then he saw her sitting upon a beast. John learned what the waters represented:

Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.”

– Revelation 17.15

The church grew in number and became powerful, exerting her influence over a vast area, including people of all nations, but the Book of Revelation shows that the days of the Apostate Church are numbered.

Questions:

  • Of what church are you a member?
  • Does your church use only the Bible for its authority?
