Old Testament: Gen 13.12–13
To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 12–14 on January 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
The herdsmen of Lot and the herdsmen of Abram were not getting along. Therefore, Abram suggested that they break up and he told his nephew Lot to choose whatever land he wanted and Abram would go in the other direction. The Bible tells us about Lot’s choice:
Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.
– Genesis 13.12–13
The land of Canaan certainly was not heaven, but Sodom was much worse and Lot headed in that direction. Later you will discover that he was not able to turn the city around, not even a little, and grieved him to live there (2 Peter 2).
