New Testament: Matt 7.28–29
To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 7 on January 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
In my opinion, the Sermon on the Mount is the core of the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ. He taught radical things, nevertheless, if you grasp and live by what he taught, you will never be the same and you will be more like him.
You may have read the Sermon on the Mount so many times and have heard numerous lessons on it, that it may not seem as amazing as the first time that you read it. It sure left an impression on the people who heard it the first time:
“And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”
– Matthew 7.28–29
As you read the Sermon on the Mount, you will also notice his authority. He did not use sources, as I must do, for he himself is the source. He could rightfully say, “I say to you.”
Questions:
- What do you think of the Sermon on the Mount?
- What part of it do you struggle to keep?
- What part of it do you keep easily?
