Run from temptation

Old Testament: Gen 39.11–12

To read the Bible in a year, read Genesis 38–40 on January 16, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

Temptation comes at us constantly, but often we just ignore it. However, sometimes temptation grabs us and we have to flee, as Joseph did.

His master’s wife kept approaching him to lie with her, but he ignored her advances, reasoning with her as to why he could not do it. Then one day, she became more aggressive:

But it happened about this time, when Joseph went into the house to do his work, and none of the men of the house was inside, that she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled and ran outside.

– Genesis 39.11–12

Reasoning did not make the temptation go away, because temptation and sin are unreasonable. Therefore, Joseph just got out of the situation.

Questions:

  • What do you do to resist temptation?
  • Do you tempt others to sin?
