Things to think about concerning Jesus

New Testament: Mark 1.27

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 1.23–45 on February 17, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

A man with an unclean spirit appeared in a synagogue where Jesus taught, confessing that Jesus was the Holy One of God. Then Jesus commanded the unclean spirit to be quiet and commanded the spirit to come out of the man. How do you think the people in the synagogue reacted to such a demonstration of the power of Jesus?

Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

– Mark 1.27

Those people had never seen anything like that. They wondered what was going on and what new teaching they heard. What amazed them most was that Jesus commanded the unclean spirits and they obeyed him!

The people had no control over the unclean spirits, but Jesus clearly did, making him different from all other people, for he obviously had authority and power that none of them possessed.

Just who is Jesus?

Questions:

  • What would have been your reaction that day?
  • What do you think of Jesus?
