Lambs to the Lord

Old Testament: Num 28.3–8

To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 28–29 on March 2, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

The Lord commanded Israel to offer two male lambs daily at precise times:

“This is the offering made by fire which you shall offer to the LORD: two male lambs in their first year without blemish, day by day, as a regular burnt offering. The one lamb you shall offer in the morning, the other lamb you shall offer in the evening…The other lamb you shall offer in the evening; as the morning grain offering and its drink offering, you shall offer it as an offering made by fire, a sweet aroma to the LORD.”

– Numbers 28.3–8

It is believed these lambs were offered at 9am and 3pm, the times when the crucifixion of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, began and when he died.

Little did Israel know what those daily lamb offerings symbolized. Do we understand the significance of everything in the New Testament? We probably do not. Therefore, do not neglect anything, but do everything with sincerity and diligence, for we never know the full significance of what we do.

Questions:

  • How old did the lamb have to be?
  • About how many lambs had to have been sacrificed between 1445 BC and AD 30?
