Acknowledging that Jesus spoke the truth

New Testament: Mark 12.32–33

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 12.28–44 on March 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

A scribe asked Jesus what he believed was the greatest commandment, and Jesus answered that it was to love God, and Jesus added that the second greatest commandment was to love your neighbor.

The scribe replied:

“Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He. And to love Him with all the heart, with all the understanding, with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as oneself, is more than all the whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

– Mark 12.32–33

The scribe grasped the point of the Law, and he could see that Jesus had also.

What do you think of Jesus and his teachings? Do you agree with what he taught? If you agree in your heart and verbally, do you also agree by living those teachings?

Questions:

  • Is it still true that those commandments are the first and second greatest in the New Testament?
  • How do you show love to those who are difficult to love?
