New Testament: Mark 14.22
To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 14.1–25 on March 12, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
Jesus loved his apostles and he loves us. Therefore, he wanted us to remember him, but in a rather unique way: We eat the Lord’s Supper.
When we eat the bread, Jesus wants us to remember his body that he gave for us:
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
– Mark 14.22
The Father gave Jesus a body and he used that body to serve God and man. That is something that we need to remember, that his whole life in the flesh revolved around doing the will of God.
Then when it was time, he gave up that body to the One who gave it to him and for all mankind.
That is certainly something worth remembering.
Questions:
- From what meal did Jesus take the bread to institute his supper?
- Do you eat the Lord’s Supper every first day of the week with your local congregation?
