People often complain about government, but they do not mind using the government’s things, and that was the case with the generation of Jesus. 

Some of them wanted to see if Jesus would join them in their fight against the Roman government, so they asked him whether it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar. He questioned why they sought to test him, and then said: 

“Show Me a denarius. Whose image and inscription does it have?” They answered and said, “Caesar’s.” And He said to them, “Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”

– Luke 20.24–25 

They had a Roman coin on hand because they used the Roman monetary system, for they were like all people; they liked money and found good uses for it. 

If therefore, they were going to use the things of Rome, it was only right to pay for it.
