A goodbye like no one has ever seen

New Testament: Luke 24.51

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 24.36–53 on May 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

After his resurrection, Jesus spent about 40 days with his disciples. Then he led them to a certain location, and as he was blessing them, something wonderful happened: “Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven” (Luke 24.51).

Has anyone ever given such a goodbye? He departed to enter heaven, and to receive his kingdom, because he sat on his throne once he reached heaven. Now, he reigns over all the earth, but especially over the church, which is his kingdom on the earth.

Yet, one more time he will appear to the people of the earth, and on that day, he will retrieve his people and cast away from him all those who do no belong to him.

Questions:

  • What has been the most memorable goodbye someone has given you so far?
  • Are you ready to enter into heaven with Jesus?
