In case you wondered who the people were in David’s life

Old Testament: 1Ch 2.9–17

To read the Bible in a year, read First Chronicles 1–2 on May 20, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023

By Don Ruhl

There are some names that pop up in the story of David, and you will discover that they were relatives, in particular his nephews, such as: “Abishai, Joab, and Asahel—three. Abigail bore Amasa; and the father of Amasa…” (1 Chronicles 2.9–17).

The writer had listed the ancestors of David, along with his brothers, showing that David was the youngest, and then the writer listed the names of David’s two sisters, and their sons.

You should recognize the names of Abishai, Joab, Asahel, and Amasa, but in particular Joab, because he was the leader of David’s army.

Truly, the entire nation of Israel was family!

Questions:

  • How far back can you trace your family?
  • Who was the father of David?
