When you are embarrassed for the Lord to know what you were arguing over

New Testament: Mark 9.34

To read the Bible in a year, read Mark 9.30–50 on March 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

By Don Ruhl

Jesus is the Son of God, which means that he created all things. Yet, the disciples argued among themselves as to which one of them was the greatest.

Then the Lord asked them what they were talking about: “But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest” (Mark 9.34).

Oops! Somehow promoting your own greatness in the sight of the Lord is very inappropriate.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • What did Jesus say was the true sign of who is great?
  • Are you better than others?
