03.23.2017 – Old Testament: Jos 10.3–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Joshua 9–10 on March 23, In the year of our Lord 2017

The Gibeonites tricked Joshua and the elders of Israel into making a peace treaty with them. However, when the rest of the nations in the Land of Canaan heard what Gibeon had done, they formed an alliance and went to destroy Gibeon,
Therefore Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying, “Come up to me and help me, that we may attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.” Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered together and went up, they and all their armies, and camped before Gibeon and made war against it (Joshua 10.3–5).
Since Israel had made a covenant with Gibeon, the Israelites had an obligation to defend the city against enemies, such as those listed in this passage. Israel went and fought the national bullies, and because Israel did so, fighting for someone with whom they had agreed could live, the Lord blessed Israel with a victory.
- Have you seen bullies in action?
- What can you do about it?
