You cannot destroy the word of God

Jeremiah Bible Background

11.03.2017 – Old Testament: Jer 36.27–28

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 36–37 on November 3, In the year of our Lord 2017

Jeremiah 36 is a remarkable chapter in the word of God because it is about a king of Judah who received the first copy of the Book of Jeremiah (or at least the first 35 chapters), cut it in pieces, and threw it into the fire. Then this happened,

Now after the king had burned the scroll with the words which Baruch had written at the instruction of Jeremiah, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, saying: “Take yet another scroll, and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned” (Jeremiah 36.27–28).

The Lord had Jeremiah write another copy and add more to it, for, you see, you cannot destroy the word of God. Many have tried it, even up to modern times, but they have all failed.

Questions:

  • Why do you think the word of God outlasts all of its enemies?
  • How does the word of God affect you?
