Watch out for anything that seeks to pull your attention away from the word of God. Jesus spoke a parable that showed just how bad this can be. In the parable He spoke of a sower who sowed seed on the ground and as the plant started to grow, other plants also grew and choked out the plant. He explained,
“Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful” (Mark 4.18–19).
How many things compete for our attention daily? We have to live in this world and so we have to deal with these distractions, but we must always remember the teaching of Scripture, otherwise, the world in one way or another will take our attention away from the word of God and we will not produce fruit for the Lord.
- Are you distracted easily?
- What do you do to avoid the distractions of the world?
