06.02.2018 – New Testament: John 13.17
To read the Bible in a year, read John 13.1–17 on June 2, In the year of our Lord 2018
By Don Ruhl
After Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, He asked them whether they knew what He had just done. That might seem like an easy answer: You just washed our feet. However, He wanted them to understand who had just washed their feet. The Lord of heaven and earth, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, had just humbled Himself greatly by washing the dirty feet of His creatures. Then He said:
“If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them” (John 13.17).
If they understood what had truly happened, and then did as He had done, they would find a blessing. He, the one worthy of service, had turned Himself into a servant. Therefore, the apostles and all the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ should turn themselves into servants, for they will all be blessed for doing it.
- Do you serve others or do you expect to be served?
- When you enter a place where they serve you, do you still try to find a way to serve them?
