God blesses or curses a land based upon the lives of the inhabitants

Psalms Bible Background

08.17.2018 – Old Testament: Psa 107.33–38

To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 107–108 on August 17, In the year of our Lord 2018

By Don Ruhl

Many people talk about the land and how to preserve it and not pollute it and so on. However, in all those talks, you will not hear how the spiritual lives of the people affect the land, as it is written:

He turns rivers into a wilderness,
And the watersprings into dry ground;
A fruitful land into barrenness,
For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
And dry land into watersprings.
There He makes the hungry dwell,
That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
And sow fields and plant vineyards,
That they may yield a fruitful harvest.
He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly;
And He does not let their cattle decrease.
(Psalm 107.33–38)

The Lord turns deserts into farmland, and farmland into deserts based upon whether the inhabitants are righteous or wicked.

Questions:

  • Are you righteous or wicked?
  • What is the state of your nation?
  • What are you going to do about it?
