A king wounded in battle

1 Samuel Bible Background

Old Testament: 1Sa 31.3

To read the Bible in a year, read First Samuel 30–31 on April 20, In the year of our Lord 2020

By Don Ruhl

Knowing that the Lord was not with him, King Saul still proceeded to battle the Philistines, but they gained the upper hand,

The battle became fierce against Saul. The archers hit him, and he was severely wounded by the archers.

– 1 Samuel 31.3

What a sad day in Israel that was. Their first king died in humiliation because he had forsaken the Lord. May we all learn never to forsake the Lord, but always clear ourselves of our sins by running to Him and then living by His instruction.

  • Do you have sin from which you have not repented?
  • Do you hope that God will just forget about your sin?
