Not everyone accepts the word the same way

New Testament: Luke 8.5–8

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 8.1–21 on April 1, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021

When you teach people something that you believe passionately, that does not necessarily mean others will receive it the same as you do. Prepare yourself for all kinds of responses, and realize that it is not you that brings on these varied responses, but the word of God. Jesus illustrated this by the Parable of the Sower:

“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside; and it was trampled down, and the birds of the air devoured it. Some fell on rock; and as soon as it sprang up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. But others fell on good ground, sprang up, and yielded a crop a hundredfold.” When He had said these things He cried, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

– Luke 8.5–8

A sower sowed seed on four different soils: Hard soil that the seed could not penetrate and the birds ate the seed, rocky soil that allowed some growth, thorny soil that competed against the seed for water and nutrients, and good ground that proved productive.

Questions:

  • What kind of soil are you?
  • How much did the good ground produce?
