Old Testament: Jdg 6.29–30

How many times have we read in the Bible where someone that the people initially reject or condemn becomes the hero later in the story? For example, Moses fled Egypt because of rejection, but later God used him to save Israel. What about the story of Joseph? And consider how the people reacted at first to Gideon: 

So they said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” And when they had inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.” Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has torn down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the wooden image that was beside it.”

– Judges 6.29–30 

The Israelites in Gideon’s town had set up an altar to Baal, but Gideon tore it down, and the residents became angry. Imagine that, Israelites being angry about such a thing. Anyway, they wanted to kill Gideon for what he had done. Yet, later he would save Israel from the oppression of Midian.
