Old Testament: 1Ki 20.23
To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 19–20 on May 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2021
By Don Ruhl
The Syrians did not understand the nature of Yahweh God, although they had been Israel’s neighbors for centuries. When the Syrians lost a battle to Israel, here is what they concluded:
Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they.”
– 1 Kings 20.23
They obviously did not know that Israel’s God was the one who created the heavens and the earth. In the minds of the Syrians, Israel’s God was merely a God of the puny hills of the land of Israel.
They made a major mistake and paid dearly for it, as the rest of the narrative shows.
Yet, listen to the people of the world and see they do not understand the nature of our God, although we have been here for centuries.
