Do not be deceived

New Testament: Matt 24.4

To read the Bible in a year, read Matthew 24.1–22 on February 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2022

By Don Ruhl

After the disciples asked Jesus about the destruction of the temple, the first thing He said was:

“Take heed that no one deceives you.”

– Matthew 24.4

Yet, from that century to this one, many people have tried to deceive the church about the return of Christ and the end of the world.

Friends, please note the questions that the disciples asked are found in verse 3. Then as you read the answer of Jesus from verse 4 through chapter 25, verse 46, keep in mind how he answered their three questions.

They asked about the destruction of the temple, and of the sign of his coming, and of the sign of the end of the age, not so much meaning the end of time, but the end of the Jewish system of sacrifices. He dealt with what we call the Second Coming of Christ, but he carefully distinguished that from the destruction of the temple.

Read Matthew 24 carefully and do not let anyone deceive you, saying that the temple has to be rebuilt again, for it was destroyed in fulfillment of his promise and now we wait for his final return.

Questions:

  • What do you think when people make a prediction of the time when Christ will return?
  • Have you ever believed one of those people?
